Read-Alouds create ways to make difficult texts accessible and allow teachers to demonstrate the processes they use to comprehend texts.

  • make good text selections

  • preview and practice the text

  • establish purpose for listening 

  • model fluent reading

  • read with animation and expression 

  • facilitate discussion of text

ANTICIPATION GUIDES

Anticipation Guides are designed to increase understanding by encouraging students to make predictions and then check their understanding.

Provide students with targeted, debatable statements that require more than a simple agree or disagree response. Prompt them to consider why they agree or disagree? 
Reflect back on the statements post-reading.
